July 11th kicked of the start of Operation Safe Driver Week with the CVSA. This is an outreach campaign from CVSA and local law enforcement in an effort to reduce crashes and fatalities by addressing unsafe driver behaviors. In 2020, the CVSA reported a 24% increase in roadway fatalities despite less miles driven due to the pandemic. Studies have shown that most crashes are caused by drivers’ actions.
Law enforcement will be on the look out for dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding and distracted driving for both passenger and commercial vehicles. During this time, drivers may be issued warnings and citations as a result of unsafe driving behaviors. This is not only a good time to remind commercial fleet drivers about safe and defensive driving but to look at how to continually operate safe, reliable, and compliant fleets.
